WS - Day 1 : Tai and Chen not with us this year, others are...

There is no way to expect world number one and number two Tai tzu ying and Chen yufei for this year’s French Open. But for the first round in women's singles, the spectators could still witness very high level matches during the whole day.

First battle between the Russian  E.Kosetskaya( N°23) and the Thai  S.Katethong( N°32)

With the previous  performance score  1:1 between  the  two  players, both are eager to prevail in the head-to-head . For the first game,  the Russian  holds a steady lead of  3-4 points against  her opponant.    A lucky shot  helped the Thai save  a game point at 20:14, but the Russian  refused to give a second  chance  to her opponent :  21/16, 21/15, the Russian  is annonced safe and sound to  her next round.

P. Chouchuwong(N°10) from Thailand  vs L.Zechiri(N°55) the Bulgarian

Seeded number 5 for this year’s French Open, the 23-year-old Thai player did not seems to give her ticket away 21/12 for the first  set. The Bulgarian player amazed the audience with some nice shots but there’s no doubt the world  number 10 wanted her victory bad.  A very quick second game with 21/4 put an end to the 2nd encounter between these  two players.

Danish L.Kjaersfeldt (N°33) had the last laugh in the game with B.Corrales from Spain(N°68)

One of the toughest matches of this first day was offered by the two young players from Denmark and Spain.  The match was quite tense in terms of play and scoring.  22/20 22/20 and 21/19. Kjaersfeldt lost the first set, but her strong mind lent her a hand to take the other two and  to finally win the game. «I tried my best to  stay focused in my game, that’s how I won the match».said Djaersfeldt after the match.

German Y.Li (N°25) beat Thai P.Chaiwan (N°28) for the first round

First head-to-head on international stage,  with only 3 vacancies between their world ranking (N°25 vs N°28) , the audience would  have expected a long match. The first set between the German and the Thai was surprisingly quick with  a score of 21/8  in favor of the Thai young player.  However, the second game obviously  got the audience’s  blood  pumping.  Li held a strong mind to stay on court and she won the next two  games  with the scores 21/18 and 21/15.

When Singapore ran into  Belgium .. the Lion City won !

First time between the two female  single players. The Belgian, L.Tan(N°38) , sadly had to say goodbye to her French Open trip of this year. Her opponent, Yeo Jia Min from Singapore, earned her pass to the next around with the scores 21/16 21/9.

Mia VS  Gregoria Mariska Tunjung

One of the world’s top 15 players Mia Blichfeldt was certainly  disappointed today with a defeat towards her  long time opponent, the Indonisian Tunjung. Previously,  Tunjung held the lead (2-1) against Blichfeldt. This time, she managed to add one more victory to her 2021’s achievements.  21/13  21/12. The world 12 badminton player from Denmark was not ready to continue her journey in this year’s French Open.
