WD – F: Lee/Shin at the top of the Eiffel Tower
No Japanese pairs in the final of the French Open, Super 750 tournament. Korea’s Lee/Shin and Kim/Kong troubled them in semi-finals and competed Korea against Korea for the title today in Stade Pierre de Coubertin.
Today’s final was a rematch of the Korean Open where Kim/Kong came out as a solid promising Korean pair, number 3 in the HSBC World Tour Finals ranking.
But the relationship between Paris and Lee/Shin is strong. Runners-up in 2017, they were stopped in semi-final by the Stoeva sisters last year in 2018. Champion in 2018, it could not have been otherwise.
Kim/Kong won the opening game with strong attacking shots and solid defense and took a 11-9 lead at the mid-game interval of the second one. But Lee/Shin came back and gradually took a 2-point advantage. They trashed their opponents in the decider and won the French Open Super 750 title in 3 games 19-21 21-16 21-12.
