WS - Semifinals : Magic An Se Young

Things are getting serious at Stade Pierre de Coubertin. The defending champion has been defeated by a seventeen year old Korean AN Se Young, much to everyone’s surprise. She reached her very first Super 750 final. This is certainly the performance of the day.

New players troubling top players

The defending champion out! Yamaguchi, defending champion has been defeated at the French Open semifinal by the seventeen year old Korean AN Se Young. She has progressed very fast in the BWF world ranking - from top 100 at the beginning of the year to 16th now, only in couple of months. Pretty impressive indeed!

The mission sounded pretty tough but was fully completed in straight games. She reached her first Super 750 semifinal in Paris and has shown quite a promising potential throughout the week.

During the first game, the Korean imposed her game to a indecisive Yamaguchi, who were looking for some weaknesses. She was clearly troubled by the seventeen year old, with a 7 points deficit. The Korean took the first game 21-17. The following one was more disputed. The world ranked number 2, just like every other Japanese player, is known for her capacity to keep a high level of play for long and intense encounters. She managed to be more aggressive, but it was not enough this time : she missed 2 game points at 20-18. In the end, Yamaguchi had to concede defeat to her opponent. She won’t be defending her title tomorrow in front of the French crowd.

Incredible Carolina MARIN

The world ranked number 1, Tai Tzu Ying has been defeated just before finals. Indeed, the Spanish Carolina Marin showed a very strong performance at the stade Pierre de Coubertin today. In straight games (21-16, 21-9), she managed to get into another French Open final, the first one since 2015. She’s going to face the seventeen year old Korean for the title. She knows her as they already met just a week ago in the Danisa Denmark Open quarterfinals. The former word champion won that previous match and she will try to do it again tomorrow. « This is her first Super 750 final, so this is going to be important but I’ll have to be ready and focus on my match ».
