Men’s Singles – Day 1 – Leverdez stopped by Lin Dan

The blockbuster match awaited by the local crowd was undoubtedly France’s Brice Leverdez against China’s Lin Dan former World and Olympic champion. But Lin Dan didn’t find the way to control the battle.

“His shots are incredible”

Brice Leverdez suffered an opening round loss to Lin Dan 21-12 21-9. The badminton legend ousted the local player in 2 straight games. The French infrequently sent the crowd into a frenzy but the Chinese continuously led the battle.

“I think he played really really well and I didn’t play bad. I feel I tried my best and he was just way better than me today” said Brice.

“His shots are incredible and if you are not ready for everything, it’s difficult to play against him”.

Vittingus broke the curse

The Dane Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus punched his ticket to the next round. He overcame the Thai Kantaphon Wangcharoen in 2 games 21-10 21-15.

“I was good at using small variations all the time and disguises as well and he didn’t find a way to solve that.” outlined the Danish player.

Asking for his expectations in the tournament, he responded he would like to face Kento Momota and enjoy a new challenge. “I really enjoy playing him. He’s the best player in the world so it’s the biggest challenge. I really hope that challenge”.

Indonesia’s results: Sugiarto stopped, Ginting and Rhustavito in the last 16

After one hour and 18 minutes today, Subhankar Dey, WR 42 succeeded in fighting to achieve a 15-21 21-14 21-17 victory over the talented Indonesia’s Tommy Sugiarto – WR 17.

His peers Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Shesar Hiren Rhustavito advanced in straight games.

Ginting crushed Lee Zee Jia 21-16 21-8 and Rhustavito beat Thammasin 23-21 21-18.

Ginting will encounter Huang Yu Xiang who also booked a second round with a victory over Khosit Phetpradab (21-10 19-21 21-12).
