FINALS - Mx : China was simply too strong

The first match here in Coubertin was the mixed doubles. It opposed the world number 1 from China Zheng/Huang to Seo/Chae (Korea) ranked 32nd in the world. And the pair from China was simply… too strong !

The Chinese pair Zheng/Huang realized a perfect tournament so far, beating an Indian pair and the two English pairs Adcock/Adcock and Ellis/Smith. The Korean pair they met today in the final match of the competition is one of the surprise of this 2018 French Open. They started the tournament by winning against the French pair Labar/Mittelheisser, then against Tang/Tse from Hong Kong (number 4 seed) and a Japanese pair in the previous round. This final opposition promised to be really intense as both pairs were going to fight hard for the title.

Powerful smashes

As soon as the first set started, we could tell that it would be a very intense match. The score was really tight and the Chinese players were always leading with only one or two more points. The Koreans couldn’t resist against their very powerful smashes and lost the first set 19-21.

In the second set, Chinese players begin the match with a more comfortable lead (11-7). They clearly imposed their game and were mentally stronger than their opponent. They won this game 21-14. As they said : « The French crowd really helped us even though it was a very tough match, especially in the first game ». Their ultimate goal appears now to be the victory in the world tour finals in Guangzhou next December.
