FINALS – MS : Chen Long is back

The last match of the day at the Yonex French Open in Coubertin opposed the two Chinese compatriots Chen Long and Shi Yuqi. The match was outrageously spectacular, with a lot of long rallyes. And in the end, Chen Long won, proving that he is definitely back at the top level.

The first one is the reigning olympic champion : Chen Long. The other one is number 2 in the world ranking, and vice-champion from the previous world championships (Shi Yuqi). Needless to say that the battle for the title in paris promised to be a great spectacle. And it did !

And by witnessing the first half of the match, it seems that the reigning olympic champion Chen Long is back at his best level. C. Long early managed to widen the gap (10-7, then 11-8). With a combortable 6 points-lead in this game (15-9), Chen Long patiently kept the shuttle in the court and provoked long rallyes to finally secure the first game 21/17.

Shi Yuqi did not manage to pick himself back up

The music is not the same in the beginning of the second game. Shi Yuqi increased his level of badminton and realised many powerful smashes (mainly straight ones), to secure a small lead (9-8, then 11-10).

After the pause, the rhythm stayed the same, with Shi Yuqi struggling to keep one step ahead (15-13). But Chen Long began to turn the situation around, and offered himself a match point (20-19) which he immediately converted ! Chen Long is definitely back on track.
