Semi-finals – MS : China definitely too strong

The Men’s singles draw is usually one of the most impressive to watch. The crowd usually likes it for its impressive long rallies. Today, the young Danish player Rasmus Gemke tried to do his best against the world no 2 Shi Yuqi from China. Huge performance, but not enough. In the other match, the Olympic champion Chen Long stops the phenomenon Momota.

Chen Long back on track

Kento Momota was the favorite for the meeting between him and Chen Long, reigning Olympic champion, as the World no 1 had an amazing ascension the last few months. But today, the Chinese player seemed clearly too strong for him.

Momota was defeated by Chen Long in straight games, 21-18 21-8, a surprising and tough score. The crowd thought it would be a tighter match, but the world n°1 seemed really tired after this hard game. “I was really physically tired. Chen Long played well. I have to work on to be better in this kind of matches in the future” Momota was disappointed but gave all the credits to his opponent.

No feat for the european Gemke

The last European player in the French tournament is out. Rasmus Gemke faced for the first time the talented Shi Yuqi from China. Their first meeting was incredible. The crowd could watch some huge rallies between the two shuttlers, who gave an amazing physical performance during this match.

The world no 2 seemed too strong for the young Danish player. Shi Yuqi used his powerful straight smashes and Gemke had some difficulties to deal with it. The last European has been defeated in straight games (21-11 21-16), but the final score was not representative of the battle that really took place on the court, as every point was a huge rally. After his match, the Danish player showed a lucid attitude. “I had a great week in Paris. The crowd was amazing and I can’t wait to come back here. It was the 1st time I played Shi Yuqi and I did everything I could despite the fact my leg was hurting from previous matches”. This is a promising tournament for the twenty-year-old shuttler, who will surely have some great victories in the international circuit.

Concerning Shi Yuqi, he will try to win the title tomorrow for the 2nd time here in Paris. He will meet his peer Chen Long tomorrow for the 2018 French Open final.
