Quarter Finals - WD : When the women do the show

If you love women’s doubles, Paris was the place to be today ! Three of the four matches played today were 3 games long. And the show was really amazing.

Joy and tears for Europe

We assisted today to a huge disappointment from the Danish pair, but also to great joy from Bulgaria. Gabriela and Stefani Stoeva were opposed to Matsutomo and Takahashi (number 2 seeds). They realised an amazing performance winning only in two sets 21-8 21-16. Stefani shared : « It’s unbelievable, we still can’t believe what we just did. Of course we prepared for this match and used long rallies as our strategy. » The two bulgarian sisters were warmly supported by the French crowd and Gabriela appreciated it : « We always enjoy playing here especially in front of so many people ». Let’s hope for a happy end tomorrow as well !

Unfortunately, it was not the same story for the Danish pair Fruergaard/Thygesen who lost with a final score of 18-21 21-16 21-12 against Polii/Rahay from Indonesia. Disappointed of their performance, they explained that their opponent « were a little bit more ready in defense. » Thay also said they « want to keep the positive out of this tournament. »

Asian power ?

The first 100 % Asian match opposed Lee/Shin (number 7 seed, from Korea) to Fukuman/Yonao (from Japan). The Koreans won the first set 21-13 as expected but were stopped in the second by an impressive Japanese pair. Lee/Shin tried to resist but they lost 20-22. In the end, the Koreans won with a final score of 21-13 20-22 21-14. Tomorrow they are going to face the Stoeva sisters.

The last match opposed Chang / Jung to Matsumoto/Nagahara (number 5 seed). The Japanese pair needed 3 sets to impose its game and get qualified for the next round with a score of 21-13 14-21 21-17.
