Round 2 – WS : Some high performances

We had the opportunity to watch some good level of badminton today again, particularly in the women’s singles draw. The players ranked number 1 and 4 in the world made their entrance on the court. Will they stay at the top?

Logic has been respected. The young Chinese Chen Yufei faced the world n° 12, the Thai player Jindapol. The task were tough for a 1st round match. Indeed, she had to struggle more than expected. She lost the first game 22-20. But Chen raised her level of play and managed to win the next 2 games. Final score: 20-22 21-14 21-8.

Tai Tzu Ying made her entrance on the court with an amazing welcome from the crowd. No worries for the world n°1 : she beat the Danish Line Kjaersfeldt in straight games 21-9 21-14.

The Asians are still going

Without difficulties, The Indian Nehwal dominated the whole game of her first round match. The world n°10 is definitely willing to win her first title in Paris ! Final score : 21-11 21-11.

Speaking of Asian player, Ratchanok Intanon made also a successful entrance. For her first match at the French Open, she earned her ticket for the 2nd round after beating the Canadian Rachel HONDERICH in only 30 min (21-16 21-10).

The Europeans tried but it was not enough

Kristy Glimour faced the Japanese Sayaka Takahashi but she couldn’t do anything. Even if the crowd was behind her, she didn’t find a way to play at her best level. Disappointed, she stayed lucid after the match. “Playing in Paris is always great, and I’ll have to analyse what I missed today”. Even if the 1st game was quite close, she lost in straight game 21-19 21-9.

Same thing goes for the Spanish player Beatriz Corrales : she had a tough draw. Her opponent Nozomi Okuhara was definitely stronger and won in less than 30 min. Final score : 21-10 21-12. Beatriz commented after the match : “strong game from the world no 7, I didn’t find any solution”.

Last but not least, the vice-european champion, the Russian Evgniya Kosetskaya didn’t find a way to conclude. She lost in 3rd games against the twenty-year-old Chinese, Chen Xiaoxin, 21-16 16-21 21-13.
