Round 2 : bad day for olympic champions

2nd round of the Yonex French Open started today. From 2pm until 11pm, the French public will watch around 40 matches. Things are getting serious: Only 3 French players managed to qualify for the 2nd round today: Brice Leverdez (24) best French men’s single player at the moment. He will meet a tough opponent, the Chinese Shi Yuqi (6) who is last year’s champion of the French Open. His peers, the mixed double Audrey Fontaine and Ronan Labar (25) French hope, as they recently won the bronze medal at the European championship. They will face the 8th seed, the Malaysian Tan Kian Meng and Lai Pei Jing.

First match of the day: The titleholder of the women’s single draw, the Chinese He Bengjiao keep going on her way. She has beat the young Danish Mia Blichfeldt by using an aggressive game. She qualified for the quarter final, nothing surprising here. We think she will go far on this tournament. Score: 21-17 21-12.

The following important match was the man’s double with the Russian pair Vladimir Ivanov and Ivan Sozonov: In two straight games, they qualified by beating the Japanese Takeshi Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara, 3rd seed. What a surprise for the public. Indeed, anything could ever happen in Paris!

At the same time, the Stoeva sisters played hers 2nd round against the Korean pair Takeshi Kamura and Keigo Sonoda. Unfortunately, today wasn’t enough. The other title-holders in mixed doubles, Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen. (1) A strong pair that are really tough opponent nowadays: They qualified pretty easily to the next round. Score: 21-17 21-13

One of the last match today was the men’s single with Vittinghus (22) against the Indian Prannoy H. S. (12) It was hard for the Danish player: He said that it was physically weak after his last match. “I manage to beat the ranked 2, and the following match I can’t do anything at all. This is the worst match of my season. I’m physically weak” Score: 21-11 21-12
