World championships : Axelsen, king of the word

Viktor Axelsen (3) really gave us during the championships a lesson of badminton. After defeating NG Ka Long Angus (9) in round 3, then Chou Tien Chen in quarter finals and Olympic champion Chen Long (5). This Sunday, Viktor made history by defeating the great Lin Dan in final, 5 times world champion and won the first world title of his young career. The 23 years old Danish player stopped 20 years of Asian domination in men’s single.
The longest match
It took 1 hour and 50 minutes to Japan Nozomi Okuhara (7) to defeat Indian Pusarla V. Sindhu (4) during a game that will long be remembered. After defeating the Olympic champion Carolina Marin, Okuhara faced PV Sindhu, who already won silver in Rio last year and was determined to win gold this time. Final score : 21/19 20/22 22/20. The 22 years old Japanese player won her first world title and leave silver again for the 2017 edition of the Yonex French Open star.

In doubles China won 2 titles over 3 finals this Sunday. Fisrt, win Cheng Quingchen and Jia Yifan (4). The two ladies defeated Japanese Yuki Fukushima and Sayaka Hirota (21/18 17/21 21/15) in a little more than 1 hour and 20 minutes. Then with Liu Cheng and Zhang Nan in men’s double, defeating quickly Indonesians Mohammad Ahsan and Rian Agung Saputro (21-10 21-17). Finally, the mixed double saw the Indonesian pair Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir (3) winning gold over the number 1 Zheng Siwei and Chen Qingchen (China) 15/21 21/16 21/15
The world championships are now over. Next step will be Korean Open in 15 days before gathering in Paris for a great week of badminton for October 24th to 29th
